Yukito Matsuno, director of the horror movie Okamuro-san, adapts a horror novel by Atsuto Ninomiya. He has cast former HKT48/NMB48-idol and TV personality Anna Murashige and this is her debut in a horror film.
Other notable names include Ryuta Kuwayama of the dance and vocal group WATWING. He was cast in the well-regarded drama Single8. Asuka Hanamura was a supporting actor in the Netflix adaptation of City Hunter, a hit film from 2024. Ryoka Yoshida returns to work with Matsuno after Okamuro-san.
Synopsis: A YouTuber named Tomoki Uchikawa, along with his friends Hinako, Sota, and Nanae, investigate urban legends and travel to the site of a former village where people are reputed to disappear. However, it seems like they disappear because all that remains of them is the rental car they hired and a video camera inside that. This is the debut feature-length film from Yu Shibuya (IMDB), the head of a theatre troupe named Sheepdog. In the past, he has made short films. Probably most relevant to reader of this blog is his credit for co-writing colorless (2020)
Synopsis: Zenji is a fisherman who lives in a small village in Hokkaido. Ever since a fierce argument, he hasn’t seen his son Mitsuo, who travelled to Tokyo. He never got a chance to make up for that absence either because Mitsuo died of cancer and Zenji missed the funeral. As Mitsuo’s 49th birthday approaches, his wife, Toruko, visits Zenji and brings their two daughters, Miharu and Rin. Zenji is unsure as to how to act but soon family ties start to emerge, especially as Miharu, who is autistic and hearing-impaired, wants to emerge from her shell but finds it difficult.

Synopsis: This is the first documentary produced by the Yomiuri Giants, a baseball team. It was made to commemorate the 90th anniversary of their founding and looks back on the 2024 season, when the Giants won the Central League championship for the first time in four years.

Part 2 of the “INTER::FACE Intelligent Machine Crime Prosecution Department” trilogy, a sequel to the near-future suspense “Center Line,” which depicts the course of a trial to prove an AI’s intent to kill. It follows Part 1, which was released at the start of 2025.
Writer/director Takumi Shimomukai is an active software engineer and if you go to the site, you can see him discuss technology and the film’s themes.
Synopsis: The vocalist of a popular indie band is involved in a street crime and the lyric-generating AI installed in his smartphone witnessed the whole incident. Clues to the incident are released piecemeal via the lyrics in the songs following the incidents and the band members pick up on the clues and try to piece together the whole story.

This is a theatrical run for an OVA for SK8 the Infinity TV anime, which was broadcast all the way back in 2021. This OVA will consist of four episodes and will be released in Japan on March 19th, 2025.
The theatrical screenings will add a special first season compilation video and a cast video which runs for 60 minutes while the rest is new footage.
Synopsis: The story follows a high school student in Okinawa named Reki, a skateboarder who takes part in a secret, no-holds-barred competition after midnight known as “S.” Participants race each other on skateboards at an abandoned mine, Friendships and rivalries are formed in these skateboard race battles.
