Welcome to the final trailer post of the week.
You can find the first two trailer posts here and here.
I spent this week continuing to recover with my fractured knee so that meant doing festival work and also watching and writing about films.
I posted a preview of the Japanese films at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and the line-up of titles at this year’s Japan Foundation Touring Film Programme. The next fest I will cover is Berlinale and the Osaka.
My favourite watches were The Adventurers (Ringo Lam), It Comes (Tetsuya Nakashima).
In tragic news, David Lynch has passed away. As a horror hound and someone open to surrealism, I totally dug Lost Highway and Blue Velvet and was left traumatised by Mulholland Drive. The Elephant Man and The Straight Story were my other favourites. The pathos he creates for his characters really moved me. That pathos, his love for people really made the end of the final season of Twin Peaks for me. I still need to watch Wild at Heart.
This news sucks. He was a master artist and his films were really moving and he seemed like a genuinely cool person as well. Every time I read his ideas on the power of cinema and how to live life, I was inspired.
RIP David Lynch.
