Since my last trailer post collection, I’ve watched Longlegs (2024), Hundreds of Beavers (2024), and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. I’ve also started replaying Fire Emblem Awakening and tried out an old Shin Megami game on the Super Nintendo. Also, the latest episode of Heroic Purgatory is out and it covers Zhang Yimou’s House of Flying Daggers.

Synopsis: Comedian Go Takeuchi a.k.a. “Black Samurai,” makes his directorial debut with this documentary where he records his journey with a friend to Italy in order to track down his Cameroonian father. It took place amidst the pandemic and shows Takeuchi’s quest to find his father before time runs out. In the background is his parent’s romance, his career as a comedian, meeting the African community in Italy, and examining what it means to be mixed-race.

The film won the Eiga.com Award at the 17th Tanabe-Benkei Film Festival. Since it won an award at Tanabe-Benkei, it will be one of a number of that fest’s awardees to get screened at select cinemas over the next couple of months as part of the “Tanabe-Benkei Film Festival Selection 2024” programme.
It runs from August 23-September 12 in Tokyo at Theatre Shinjuku, and September 20-26, at Theatre Umeda in Osaka.
Synopsis: Koichi Ozaki ditched his job as a pilot in the Japan Self-Defence Forces Air Force for psychological reasons and now works as a garbage collector late at night. He is being trained by Hana Hashimoto and the two encounter various reactions from people they collect garbage from. He finds the job hard but comes to sense a certain beauty in the sight of Hana working diligently.

Hypnosis Microphone is a project featuring eighteen Japanese voice actors who make up teams of three emcees, each representing a famous district in Japan. These teams battle each other with rap battle albums, division songs, and occasional drama CDs. This film is a 2.5D stage version edited for a cinematic presentation.
