Synopsis: “Fafner” are humanoid mobile weapons piloted by teens who battle creatures called “Festum”. It’s a long-running franchise and this latest season of the anime has batches of three episodes hived off and put in cinemas. This is the final chapter of the theatrical release and covers episode 10 “Storms, Come and Go”, episode 11 “Heroes — Two Heroes” and episode 12 ‘Beyond the Azure’. The fate of Ryugu Island hangs in the balance as Miu tries to return and Soushi faces his own challenge. They must face an existence filled with anger and sorrow.

In 2020, Makoto works in the broadcasting industry but has failed to become a novelist. Worse still, he cannot get over Kaori. A series of reunions reminds him of her…

The movie version of a TV show based on a manga. Two straight actors playing gay characters. One of them is Hidetoshi Nishijima who was fantastic in License to Live.

Synopsis: Shiro Kakei (Hidetoshi Nishijima), a solicitor, and his boyfriend Kenji Yabuki (Seiyo Uchino), a hairdresser, find having dinner together has become an important part of their lives. They go on a trip to Kyoto as a birthday present for Kenji but while he enjoys Kyoto, Shiro drops a massive bombshell of a story that changes their feelings for each other…

Following on from jam (2018), SABU continues his collaboration with LDH production, the parent company of which manages the Gekidan EXILE group, whereby members from that group take roles in the films made. This one features Naoto, model-turned-actress Aina Yamada and musician-turned-actor Ryo Ishibashi (he who picked the wrong girl in Audition) in a love fantasy film with some yakuza action. It is based on an original script and was filmed in Kitakyushu, Tokyo and Taiwan.

Here’s my review

Synopsis: Kenji (EXILE Naoto) is a civil servant taking part in the creation of a gigantic shopping centre. When Kenji is assigned the task of overseeing the demolition of an old dance hall he discovers his job becomes impossible because some mysterious force stops every attempt. Turns out that the place is cursed so Kenji turns to a young woman who is a medium who can grant him access to the spirit world of spirits. But ghosts may be the least of his problems because the local yakuza clan gets involved…

Synopsis: The slightly negative characters are back for their second film and this time it’s a camping trip during the autumn. Five magician brothers appear in town and cast spells all over the place to make the whole town feel like a party place.
